How to Use Clone and Heal

Clone Stamp copies pixels exactly from one part of the image to another. It is ideal for removing objects, repairing damaged areas, replacing missing detail, or extending textures such as brickwork, grass, wood or sky.

Heal Brush also copies pixels from a source area, but it blends the copied pixels with the surrounding colours and tones. This produces a more natural result on skin, painted walls, skies and other smooth surfaces where a straight copy may be obvious.

How to use the tools

1. Click Pick Clone Source.
2. Click a clean area of the image that closely matches the area you want to repair.
3. Select either Clone Stamp or Heal Brush.
4. Adjust the brush size, hardness, opacity and, for the Heal Brush, the blend strength.
5. Paint over the unwanted object or blemish using short, controlled brush strokes.
6. If the source area is no longer suitable, choose Pick Clone Source again and select a new one.

Which tool should I use?

• Clone Stamp: Best for sharp edges, patterns, bricks, wood grain, text, fences and detailed textures.
• Heal Brush: Best for skin blemishes, dust spots, scratches, stains, small objects and smooth backgrounds where you want the repair to blend naturally.

Tip: For the best results, choose a source area close to the part you are repairing so that the lighting, colour and texture match as closely as possible.
